Reviving Ancient Water Management Systems Using IoT and Data Analytics
Abstract Water scarcity is a worldwide increasing issue, both in urban and rural regions. Modern water management practices emphasize large-scale infrastructure, but ancient civilizations built highly efficient water conservation systems that were sustainable and responsive to local conditions. Traditional systems such as stepwells, qanats, aqueducts, and rainwater harvesting have been overlooked in modern water management practice. This paper discusses how the integration of contemporary technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analytics can be used to revive and enhance these old water management methods. Through the use of real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and automation, these old methods can be modified to suit the needs of contemporary society while being sustainable
