THE IMPACT OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT ON INDEPENDENT STUDY IN PRIMARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Parental involvement is a critical factor in shaping the academic success and independent study habits of primary and middle school foreign language learners. When parents actively engage in their children’s language education, they create a supportive and motivational environment that enhances both classroom learning and self-directed study. By fostering a sense of responsibility and autonomy, parental involvement empowers young learners to develop consistent study routines, improve their language proficiency, and build confidence in their abilities. This article examines the multifaceted impact of parental engagement on independent study, drawing on the theories and findings of prominent researchers such as Epstein, Dornyei, Lightbown, and Spada. It explores how parental support influences learner autonomy, strengthens intrinsic motivation, and facilitates language acquisition.
