D1.13: Report on NAB participation
About this document Report on interaction with NAB members. Work package in charge WP1 Executive summary This report summarizes the activities, contributions, and impact of the Advisory Board of the Horizon Europe project nextGEMS – Next Generation Earth Modelling Systems (Grant Agreement No. 101003470). The Advisory Board played a crucial role in guiding the project’s scientific direction, providing strategic input, and supporting its outreach and community-building efforts. Four of the six Advisory Board members actively engaged with the project through participation in hackathons, in-residence visits, and mid-term consultations. Their input helped shape key modelling decisions—most notably in the representation of tropical precipitation and the development of microphysical processes—leading to measurable improvements in model performance. Their guidance also informed the project’s broader positioning as a prototype for digital twin climate laboratories and its alignment with initiatives like EVE and the WCRP Flagship Activity on Digital Earths. The Board contributed significantly to clarifying nextGEMS’s scientific identity and enhancing visibility through global engagement events. While not all members were able to participate due to scheduling constraints, those who did were instrumental in strengthening the project’s outcomes. The report highlights that active and timely engagement—especially through open formats such as hackathons and scholar-in-residence programs—was key to maximizing the Advisory Board’s impact.
