Study of technical performance and use of space in youth basketball

Abstract: Introduction: For developing basketball players, matches are the best form of training. Success in game actions and the analysis of offensive sequences that culminate in shots are essential for evaluating their performance. Aim: This study aimed to examine the technical performance and spatial usage in youth basketball by analyzing the Minicopa Endesa 2020. Methods: An idiographic and multidimensional observational methodology was used, analyzing player positions (point guard, forward, and power forward), the technical actions they performed, and the areas of the court where they played. Results & Discussion: In the technical analysis, it was observed that point guards are the primary assistants, while power forwards finish the most offensive plays and are more present in rebounds. In the spatial analysis, there were differences, with point guards playing mostly in exterior areas and power forwards in the interior zones. On the other hand, the results showed poor shooting effectiveness across all positions, indicating that in lower categories, there is a low shooting percentage, possibly due to defensive pressure. Additionally, the highest scoring percentages occur in areas close to the basket. Conclusions: The game sequences are ineffective, and the shooting accuracy rate is very low, highlighting the need to work on game sequences to improve and reach the efficiency of elite teams.
