The impact of social media on mental health and wellbeing
Social media’s ascent has changed how people communicate with one another, bringing with it both advantages and disadvantages for mental health and wellbeing. This article examines the various ways that social media affects people, with a special emphasis on the psychological implications. According to research, social media can help people feel like they belong and are part of a community while also giving them a platform for self-expression and social support. It can have a negative aspect, though, since overuse can exacerbate depressive, anxious, and lonely sensations. These platforms magnify the social comparison phenomena, where carefully chosen depictions of life can warp reality and cause users to feel dissatisfied and low in self-worth. Furthermore, unpleasant interactions and cyberbullying can worsen mental health conditions, especially in younger populations. This article examines recent research on the topic, emphasizing how crucial it is to comprehend these dynamics in order to create mental health therapies that work and encourage social media usage that is appropriate. This study attempts to offer a balanced viewpoint that supports mental health in the digital age and encourages users to develop healthy online habits by examining both the advantages and disadvantages of social media.
