Simulation studies for the development of a Barrel Imaging Calorimeter for EIC
The ePIC experiment at the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) aims to provide high-precision measurements of nucleon and nuclear structure functions, enabling a deeper understanding of quark and gluon dynamics. The Barrel Imaging Calorimeter (BIC) of the ePIC detector is an electromagnetic calorimeter aiming for precise measurements of electrons and photons. It is a crucial component of the ePIC detector, enabling precise energy measurements and detailed shower characterization in the barrel region. The Korean BIC group conducted extensive Monte Carlo simulation studies, comparing experimental data of a BIC prototype with Geant4 simulations. The simulation studies currently aim to compare experimental data from the 2024 electron beam tests performed at the CERN PS T10 beamline, improve detector performances, and optimize reconstruction algorithms in preparation for the 2025 beam tests at the KEK PF-AR facility using our BIC prototype. This presentation provides insight into the progress of BIC simulation studies and future plans for detector validation.
