ADVANCEMENTS IN SMART MANUFACTURING: INTEGRATING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING FOR PRECISION TOOLING AND AUTONOMOUS PRODUCTION SYSTEMS

The convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Additive Manufacturing (AM) is transforming the landscape of smart manufacturing by enabling high-precision tooling and autonomous production. This paper explores the synergistic integration of AI algorithms—particularly machine learning, computer vision, and predictive analytics—with additive manufacturing technologies such as fused deposition modeling (FDM) and selective laser sintering (SLS). In the context of Industry 4.0 and looking ahead to Industry 5.0, this integration fosters adaptive systems capable of self-optimization, real-time monitoring, and intelligent decision-making. The paper also evaluates recent developments, challenges in scalability and interoperability, and future prospects for closed-loop manufacturing systems.
