UNIVERSITY DIGITALIZATION THROUGH THE LENS OF INSTITUTIONAL EVALUATION: EVIDENCE FROM EUA REPORTS
Over the past two decades, digital transformation has shifted from fragmented technological initiatives to a central component of strategic development in higher education institutions. This article offers a retrospective review of the Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) reports conducted by the European University Association (EUA) for universities evaluated between 2003 and 2005, along with their subsequent assessments up to 2024. The study examines digitalization trends across eight universities—including Brno University of Technology, Pan-European University, NOVA University Lisbon, Charles University, Università di Napoli Parthenope, Technical University of Košice, Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, and Warsaw University of Technology. The analysis reveals consistent efforts to implement centralized digital infrastructures, enhance educational delivery through learning management systems and hybrid formats, and optimize institutional governance via digital monitoring and administrative tools. A growing emphasis on data-informed strategic planning and the use of digital platforms for international cooperation is also evident. Despite these advancements, issues such as fragmented systems, limited resources, and varying digital competencies remain. The findings emphasize the importance of continuous support for ICT development and staff training to foster effective and sustainable digital transformation in the university sector.
