A Review on SFPSQA: Smart Food Packet Scanner for Quality Assessment Using Barcode Technology and Open Food Facts API
The rise in processed food consumption has brought a pressing need for accessible tools that aid consumers in making informed dietary choices. This review presents SFPSQA (Smart Food Packet Scanner for Quality Assessment), a Python-based desktop application designed to scan barcodes or QR codes on packaged foods and retrieve real-time nutritional data. Utilizing OpenCV, Tkinter, Matplotlib, and the Open Food Facts API, the tool analyzes and visualizes key nutrient and ingredient profiles. This paper discusses the application's architecture, technical challenges, data integration, visualization methods, and societal impact. The review highlights how SFPSQA promotes food transparency and suggests avenues for future enhancement, including mobile integration and AI-driven dietary analysis.
