THE ROLE OF LEADERSHIP SUPPORT IN MITIGATING WORKPLACE STRESS AND ENHANCING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IN PRIVATE SECTOR ORGANIZATIONS

This research investigates the pivotal role of leadership support in mitigating workplace stress and enhancing employee engagement in private sector organizations. Workplace stress has become a significant concern, negatively impacting employee well-being, productivity, and retention. In contrast, employee engagement—characterized by commitment, enthusiasm, and involvement—is a crucial driver of organizational success. The study hypothesizes that leadership support, particularly in the form of emotional support, feedback, and the promotion of work-life balance, can significantly reduce stress and foster higher levels of engagement. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative interviews with 60 employees and leaders from various private sector industries, alongside quantitative surveys measuring perceived stress, leadership behaviors, and engagement levels. The findings indicate a strong negative correlation between leadership support and workplace stress, and a positive correlation between leadership support and employee engagement. Specifically, leaders who provide regular feedback, demonstrate empathy, and promote a supportive environment were found to buffer stress and enhance engagement. Moreover, leadership behaviors such as fostering work-life balance were identified as key mediators in this relationship. The study contributes to the understanding of leadership’s role in creating healthier, more productive work environments and offers practical implications for organizations seeking to improve employee well-being and performance. These findings suggest that organizations should prioritize leadership development initiatives to foster supportive work environments that mitigate stress and improve engagement outcomes. Abstract
