EXTENT OF COMPLIANCE OF MOTHERS TO SAFE MOTHERHOOD PROGRAM

Maternal health remains a critical public health concern, with the Safe Motherhood Program playing a vital role in ensuring optimal care. This study aimed to assess mothers' compliance with the Safe Motherhood Program. It examined factors such as age, civil status, highest educational attainment, number of children, number of prenatal check-ups, and the proximity of their residence to healthcare facilities. The researcher conducted the study in selected Level II hospitals in Eastern Pangasinan and administered a survey questionnaire to 60 mothers. A descriptive study approach was used, using statistical methods like frequency and percentage, weighted mean, ANOVA, t-test, and the Scheffe test. The respondents were predominantly young adults, married, holders of a Bachelor's degree, with an average monthly income, not working, and had a relatively low number of prenatal check-ups. Most respondents had an average number of children and lived near healthcare facilities. The findings revealed that mothers exhibited the highest levels of compliance in labor and delivery, health education, and counselling. Conversely, the lowest levels of compliance were observed in antenatal care and family planning. Significant variations in compliance were noted based on civil status, educational attainment, monthly family income, occupation, and the number of prenatal check-ups attended. Furthermore, the mothers' demographic profiles significantly influenced their overall compliance with the program. The researcher recommends adapting maternal health programs to enhance mothers' compliance with the Safe Motherhood Program outlined by the Department of Health.
