EFFECT OF CORPORATE RESTRUCTURING ON SHARE PRICE OF QUOTED DMBS IN NIGERIA FROM 2010 TO 2019
This paper empirically investigated the effect of corporate restructuring on share price of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the effect of financial restructuring (FIR), asset restructuring (ASR), operating restructuring (OPER), and capital restructuring (CAR) on share price of quoted (8) DMBs in Nigeria from 2010 to 2019. Specifically, four (4) hypotheses were postulated. The statistical package used to run the regression is Econometric Views (E-Views) version 9.0. The panel data methodology was used to test the research hypotheses. Meanwhile, data for the study was sourced from the annual reports of the eight (8) selected DMBs in Nigeria. On the overall, the regression model further gives the results of coefficients of independent variables used in the model which indicate that these variables have variance relationship to the dependent variable. The study concludes that bank restructuring on the overall though increase share price but such effect at the moment is minimal. Again, capital restructuring is instrumental to increase share value of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Based on the conclusion, the study recommends that to continuously increase share price and avoid instances of capital restructuring following a banking crisis, banks need to continuously restructure their operations by increasing their branches, widening their ATM network and emphasis on agency and mobile banking to enhance financial inclusion
