Simple visualisation techniques for simplified Humanities. A survey of Digital Humanities projects
This poster presents the findings of a systematic survey of 186 web-based Digital Humanities (DH) dissemination projects, aimed at identifying current visualisation, interaction, and narrative strategies, with a focus on the representation of uncertainty and on how disciplinary contexts influence design choices. The findings underline a mismatch between the theoretical advocacy for richer, interpretative approaches to visualisation and the practical dominance of standard, technically convenient, out-of-the-box solutions with limited customisation. By documenting this gap, the study contributes to a growing body of literature advocating for more expressive and epistemologically grounded visual strategies in the DH, and encourages researchers to critically reflect on the communicative implications of design choices in digital dissemination.
