Linguistic and Cultural Interferences in the Translation of Political Discourse
Abstract. This study explores the linguistic and cultural interferences that arise in the translation of political discourse, with a focus on their implications for cross-cultural and international communication. Political texts are deeply embedded in cultural and ideological contexts, and their translation requires not only linguistic proficiency but also a nuanced understanding of political semantics, cultural references, and pragmatic meanings. The study employs a qualitative analysis of political speeches translated between two languages to identify the nature and extent of interferences. Key findings reveal a loss of cultural specificity, pragmatic shifts, and ideological reshaping, all of which influence how political messages are interpreted across cultures. These findings highlight the importance of cultural awareness and contextual sensitivity in political translation, suggesting that misinterpretation can lead to diplomatic misunderstanding and erosion of intended meaning. The study underscores the critical role of translators as cultural mediators in the political domain.
