Traumatic Cataract: Clinical Presentation, Management Strategies, and Visual Outcomes
To evaluate the clinical characteristics, management approaches, and visual outcomes in patientspresenting with traumatic cataract.Materials and Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 100 patients diagnosed with traumatic cataract over a 5-year period. Data regarding demographics, type and mechanism of trauma, surgical techniques, intraocular lens (IOL) placement, and postoperative visual outcomes were collected and analysed. Results:Blunt trauma was the predominant cause (64%). Primary posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL)implantation was performed in 80% of cases. At 6-month follow-up, 72% achieved a best-correctedvisual acuity (BCVA) of ≥6/18. Poor outcomes were primarily associated with posterior segmentcomplications and late presentation. Conclusion:Prompt and individualized surgical intervention can result in favourable visual outcomes in the majorityof traumatic cataract cases.
