Platypus perrisi N Chapuis 1865
15. Platypus perrisi N Chapuis, 1865 Hosts: Anthoshorea roxburghii (= Shorea robusta) Distribution in South Africa: Eastern Cape New record: Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, South Africa, 06 December 1960, Leg. C. Crossor, Ac. X. 1189, Det. K.E. Schedl [SANC]. Notes: Platypus perrisi is an ambrosia beetle known primarily from Asia. This study appears to represent the first official report of Platypus perrisi from the African continent (Wood & Bright 1992). However, as this specimen was identified by Schedl, its identification should be treated with some scrutiny until it can be verified.
