Assessment of Air Quality in a Planned Urban Region: A Case Study of Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh
AbstractThis paper evaluates the ambient air quality of Naya Raipur during its developmentphase. Baseline air monitoring data for PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO2 was collected at fourlocations during the winter season of 2023–24. Air Quality Index (AQI) values areanalyzed and compared with national standards to assess the environmental suitability ofthe new capital. Further, this section explores related subtopics and explains their relevance in detail. Theair quality indicators used, such as PM10, PM2.5, and gaseous pollutants like SO2 and NO2,are evaluated based on long-term monitoring. Each pollutant has specific health andenvironmental consequences, which are explored in this study. Monitoring data is alsostatistically interpreted to provide variability and trend insights over the period ofobservation. Comparative analysis is also made between new capital Naya Raipur and olderRaipur city zones to highlight planning impacts.
