THE ROLE OF VISUALS AND ILLUSTRATIONS IN ENHANCING READING COMPREHENSION IN A1-LEVEL LEARNERS
This exploratory action research investigates the impact of visuals and illustrations on reading comprehension among A1-level English language learners. Recognizing that beginners often struggle with decoding and understanding textual input, this study integrates visuals into reading materials to explore whether they facilitate better comprehension and engagement. A small group of learners was observed over a six-week period during which illustrated texts were used in lessons. Data was collected through classroom observation, comprehension quizzes, and learner reflections. The study found a positive correlation between the use of illustrations and improved comprehension, indicating that visuals can be a powerful tool in beginner-level reading instruction.
