Role of neonatal intensive care unit: A Review of Neonatal Jaundice
Abstract Neonatal jaundice is a common condition, affecting a large percentage of newborns, particularly during their first week of life. While many cases are mild and resolve without intervention, severe hyperbilirubinemia can lead to serious complications such as acute bilirubin encephalopathy and kernicterus if not adequately treated. Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) play an essential role in managing high-risk cases through early detection, monitoring, and therapeutic interventions. This review highlights recent studies on the causes, diagnosis, and management of neonatal jaundice, with a focus on the critical role NICUs play in improving outcomes. Keywords: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Jaundice.
