Effect of Seed Priming on Germination and Seedling Growth of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)
Wheat is a vital cereal crop grown around the world, forming a staple in the everyday meals of countless individuals. A member of the Triticum group, it has been farmed for centuries, primarily for its seeds, which are ground into a powder. The plant thrives in cooler climates that receive average levels of rain and have soils that allow water to pass through easily. Among the many varieties, Triticum aestivum, commonly known as bread wheat, is the most widespread, while Triticum durum is used chiefly for pasta. Nutritionally, wheat offers a good amount of carbohydrates, along with protein, dietary fibre, B vitamins, and essential minerals like iron and magnesium. The cereal is one of the cheapest sources of energy, provides a major share of protein (20%) and calorie intake (19%) from consumption (Ramadas et al, 2019).
