Literature arises through the interplay of tradition and modernity. From ancient times, literary works reflecting the ancient Tamil society have embedded geographical records, creating a long-standing historical narrative. The depiction of the Sangam period’s way of life through the Akathinai and Purathinai literary traditions can be understood as cultural geography. The five landscapes—Kurunji, Mullai, Marutham, Neydal, and Palai—represent not only physical territories but also the cultures associated with them. As generations settle in specific lands, customs and practices evolve based on the natural features of those regions. The customs passed down by ancestors, continued through generations, become integral cultural elements. In this context, these cultural elements are intertwined with the land, becoming symbols of their respective regions. While landscapes, water resources, and technologies may change over time, the land and water continue to shape the essence of the soil and its cultural identity. This forms the focus of the research paper
