SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS E-LEARNING: IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIOLINGUISTIC COMPETENCE IN EFL STUDENTS
This article delves into the effects of synchronous and asynchronous e-learning on the sociolinguistic competence of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. Sociolinguistic competence involves the ability to use language appropriately in different social contexts, recognizing both formal and informal language usage. As digital learning environments become more prevalent, these two e-learning modes offer unique opportunities and challenges for developing sociolinguistic skills. The study investigates how synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (self-paced) e-learning platforms shape students' understanding of sociolinguistic norms and their capacity to communicate effectively in various situations.
