Assessment of Water Resource Management Strategies in Baidoa, Somalia.
Abstract This study evaluates water resource management strategies in Baidoa, Somalia, focusing on the challenges, effectiveness, and sustainability of existing approaches. Baidoa, a semi-arid region with growing water scarcity issues, faces significant challenges in ensuring equitable access to clean and safe water. The study employs a qualitative research design, gathering data through interviews, observations, and document analysis to assess current policies, infrastructure, and community participation in water management. Findings indicate that weak governance, limited infrastructure, and climate change contribute to persistent water shortages. Additionally, inadequate coordination among stakeholders and insufficient investment in water supply systems hinder effective management. The study highlights the importance of integrated water resource management (IWRM), community engagement, and infrastructure improvement as key strategies for sustainable water management in Baidoa. Recommendations include strengthening institutional capacity, implementing water conservation techniques, and promoting public awareness to enhance water security and resilience.
