Road traffic accidents represent a significant and growing threat to public health and safety worldwide. Every year, millions of people lose their lives or suffer severe injuries as a result of these incidents, making road safety a pressing global issue. Beyond the tragic loss of human life, road accidents have far-reaching social and economic repercussions. These include the high costs of emergency medical care, long-term rehabilitation for survivors, vehicle repairs or replacements, insurance claims, legal proceedings, and a substantial loss of productivity due to aftermath of such tragic events. To help reduce the number of road accidents caused by human error, we are developing a smart camera system that can monitor the driver and surrounding vehicles in real time. This system will use advanced technology to track the driver’s behavior such as signs of tiredness, distraction, or unsafe driving and measure the distance between vehicles to ensure safe following.
