Resin Infiltration technique – ICON® - An Overview Article
To provide description of underlying principles and clinical applications of resin infiltration ICON For white spot lesions and enhance the aesthetics by reducing opacity White spot lesions are early signs of demineralization under the intact enamel which may or may not lead to development of caries. They areaesthetically unpleasing Nowadays dentist are facing increased aesthetic demands from Patients for Correction of shade, shape ,texture and position of Teeth .The shade of teeth is very Important concern for patients especially when white spots are big part of Anterior teeth. Resin infiltration is a new therapeutictechnique for white spot lesions .This technique is considered as micro invasive and bridges the gap between non-invasive and minimally invasive treatment of early Caries delaying the need of restoration aslong as feasible. ICON Resin / Infiltration protocol using is one of the most conservative and efficientprotocols. The ICON treatment was initially proposed as a simple and minimally invasive alternative of caries treatment for initial proximal lesions but surprisingly technique proved a high ability to mask thewhite spots by modifying refractive index of lesion. it is minimally invasive procedure for filing, reinforcing and stabilizing demineralized enamel without compromising good tooth structure. Infiltration of early enamel lesion by icon which possess low viscosity property that has ability of masking the effect of discoloration and maintain its colour stability by alteration of tooth's refractive index. clinical studies havedemonstrated that the ICON technique not only enhances the visual quality of enamel surface but also contribute to the stabilization of underlying dental structure of Caries. Thereby preventing progression of caries. The method is quick, painless and preserve healthy tooth structure, making it an attractive option for patients seeking Conservative treatment for white spot lesions.
