Anthropometric Characteristics and Physical Fitness Profile of Children and Adolescents who Attend Sports Initiation Classes in the Municipality of Canaã dos Carajás – Pará

Abstract: Introduction: The study "Analysis of Physical Fitness and Anthropometric Characteristics of Children and Adolescents Participating in the Sports Initiation Program – NIES: A Longitudinal Analysis in Canaã dos Carajás – Pará" investigates the physical fitness and anthropometric characteristics of young athletes. Focused on Canaã dos Carajás, Pará, the study examines how socioeconomic and geographic factors influence the lifestyle and physical development of children and adolescents involved in sports activities. Aim: To analyze the physical fitness and anthropometric variables of NIES participants, identifying patterns and correlating them with data such as age, gender, and time in the program. Methods: The research, descriptive and cross-sectional in nature, employs methodological procedures including the collection of standard anthropometric data (height, weight, wingspan, hip and waist circumferences) and specific tests to assess flexibility, upper and lower body strength, and cardiorespiratory endurance. The sample consists of 449 individuals, representing 50% of the enrolled children, selected based on attendance in the program. Inclusion and exclusion criteria are established to ensure data accuracy. Results and Discussion: Results include identifying patterns of physical development, the influence of the socioeconomic and geographic context of Canaã dos Carajás on these variables, and information to guide pedagogical practices and training programs. Conclusions: Text. The study contributes to physical education and public health by providing valuable data for developing policies and interventions aimed at promoting healthy and active lifestyles from a young age.
