Abstract

The corporate brain drain wave in Nigeria which has hitherto prevented the talent war in the business environment has not shown any indication of relief in the present time. This study has investigated the pervasiveness of brain drain and its possible effect on talent management, analysing the mediating role on the relationship between brain drain pushed factors and talent management. This study utilised cross sectional research design to survey the 250 participants of the study among manufacturing organisations in Nigeria. The study used a probability random sampling to address the sampling strategy of the study. Using a hierahical regression analysis, the outcome of the study demonstrated that lack of opportunity for career growth, financial insecurity, toxic work environment, inadequate remuneration, undervalued talented employees, jb security and management style/organisational culture were possible issues that provoked wave of brain drain among employees in manufacturing industry in Nigeria and deter talent management for corporate managers in Nigeria. The study has indicated that toxic work environments, poor working conditions and poor remuneration have deterred the management of organisations from managing talented workforce in Nigeria's manufacturing industry. Therefore, the study concluded that the brain drain, called the Japa wave, has worsened the nation’s manufacturing development and stability due to the shortage of professional employees in the industry.
