Human-Centric Healthcare in Society 5.0 – The BieBot Initiative for Breast Health
Breast health literacy, which involves understanding risk factors, recognizing symptoms, and knowing how to perform self-examinations, is essential for women to engage in proactive health behaviours that can lead to improved outcomes. In recent years, digital health applications have emerged as innovative tools to help improve health knowledge and empower users with resources for managing their health. Breast Imaging Education Bot (BieBot©) is an interactive educational chatbot designed to deliver comprehensive information on breast health, focusing on breast cancer (BC) and its screening imaging modalities. The development of BieBot© as a conversational agent represents a forward-thinking approach to enhancing breast health literacy, embodying key principles of Society 5.0 in the healthcare domain. Leveraging advanced chatbot technology, this initiative is designed to empower patients, especially women, by offering accessible, reliable breast cancer and examination resources. This bot has been developed with bilingual capabilities (Malay and English) and features engaging infographics and videos aligned with Malaysian Ministry of Health guidelines. The content, rigorously validated by experts in breast cancer and imaging, underwent a pilot test with 100 women during a breast awareness campaign in January 2025. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with most participants finding it user-friendly and informative. They highlighted that the interactive elements and visual aids were easy to understand and kept them engaged throughout the experience. Integrating these innovative educational tools embodies the core principles of Society 5.0—promoting digital health literacy and personalized education and leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance healthcare outcomes and empower patients. This approach improves health literacy and signifies a societal shift toward a human-centric, technology-driven healthcare system that values education, accessibility, and patient empowerment.
