SOCIOLINGUISTIC FEATURES OF ENGLISH BORROWINGS
This article explores the sociolinguistic dimensions of lexical borrowing in the English language, tracing its development across major historical phases. Drawing on a synthesis of historical linguistics and sociolinguistic theory, the study identifies key motivations for borrowing, such as prestige, communicative necessity, and identity formation. The analysis reveals that English has continuously expanded its lexicon through contact with languages such as Latin, French, Old Norse, Hindi, Japanese, and Korean. The article concludes that lexical borrowing is not merely a linguistic mechanism but a mirror of sociocultural dynamics and global interaction.
