The Evolution of the Modern Education System: From Gurukul to MOOCs
Abstract: Significant changes in socioeconomic conditions, advances in technology, and evolving values are all reflected in the development of education. The Gurukul system in ancient India placed a strong emphasis on individualized, face-to-face instruction in a group setting, where teachers (Gurus) taught students (Shishyas) in-depth, one-on-one lessons. Due to the impact of Islamic educational traditions and, later, European colonialization, education grew increasingly organized over time. Standardized curricula centered on disciplines like science, literature, and mathematics were established by Western-style schools during British control. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and digital learning platforms have revolutionized education in the modern era by enabling anybody with an internet connection to attend best courses from universities like MIT and Harvard. These developments facilitate flexible, self-paced learning by removing constraints associated with time, geography, and socioeconomic condition. Online education is becoming increasingly popular due to the internet's and mobile devices' quick development. Education is always changing to meet the demands of society, from locally based, traditional systems like the Gurukul to internationally accessible, technology-driven platforms like MOOCs. The increasing need for adaptable, scalable, and inclusive learning solutions emphasizes how important it is to keep changing to satisfy the demands of a world that is becoming more interconnected.
