Surface, Pattern, and the Imaginary Structure of Change
This paper presents a complex-field model of perception and consciousness, where observed reality is constituted solely by the real part of surface patterns at time ttt, while structure, motion, force, and meaning emerge from the imaginary component varying along imaginary time ititit. The human visual and cortical systems are shown to function as layered analyzers of such patterns, with delayed depolarization, residual neurotransmitters (e.g., CO₂, NO), and chemical feedback contributing to the dynamic interpretation of motion and depth. We define consciousness not as passive awareness, but as the active imaginary integration of changes in surface patterns across time. A symbolic formulation is proposed: This model unifies neural architecture, visual pattern recognition, and physical field theory under a new paradigm: “We observe the surface; we understand through the imaginary.” Tetsuo Konno(今野哲夫)ORCID: https://orcid.org/0009-0002-1842-7865
