A Theoretical Model of Domain Expertise and Creative Idea Generation
This paper develops a theoretical model examining how diverse profiles of domain ex pertise influence the creative idea generation process, with detailed consideration of both mathematical structures and economic implications. Expertise is conceptualized as a multi-dimensional construct defined by depth and breadth across multiple knowledge domains. We analyze how these dimensions affect the novelty and feasibility of generated ideas by model ing the idea generation process as a probabilistic and combinatorial synthesis of pre-acquired knowledge units. The framework quantifies expected idea quality while highlighting key trade-offs between idea quantity and quality. This theoretical exploration aims to provide insights into human capital allocation, innovation policy, and organizational strategy. In doing so, it underscores the critical role of diverse expertise in fueling both incremental and radical breakthroughs that shape long-term economic growth.
