Formulation and Evaluation of Polyherbal Transdermal Patch for Gout Therapy
This research study presents the formulation, development, and comprehensive evaluation of a novel sustained-release polyherbal transdermal patch for gout therapy. A polyherbal extract blend of Haritaki, Punarnava, Guduchi, Nirgundi, and Cocoa was optimized and formulated into a transdermal patch designed to provide targeted and sustained delivery of the polyherbal extract blend, leveraging the synergistic anti-inflammatory properties of the herbs. The polyherbal extract blend was evaluated for its in vitro anti-inflammatory activity and in vitro dissolution study of Monosodium urate (MSU) crystal, demonstrating significant potential for gout therapy. The patch exhibited controlled drug release, optimal physical and pharmaceutical properties, and significant anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. In vitro drug permeability and ex vivo permeation studies revealed a steady and sustained release of the polyherbal extract blend, indicating potential for improved therapeutic efficacy and reduced side effects. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the formulation, development, and evaluation of a novel sustained-release polyherbal transdermal patch for gout therapy. This innovative patch offers a promising, targeted, and sustained treatment approach for gout management, providing a potential alternative to conventional therapies. The findings of this research have significant implications for the development of herbal-based transdermal patches for various inflammatory diseases.
