EXPLORING THE POSITIVE POTENTIAL OF DEEPFAKES: APPLICATIONS BEYOND MISINFORMATION

Abstract: Deepfake videos are created by combining images and videos of different people, mainly faces, to replace real ones. Their widespread use contributes to misinformation, posing threats to society and democracy. This study systematically reviews 27 scholarly articles, highlighting both the risks and benefits of deepfake technology in areas like entertainment, gaming, and education. There is significant interest in deepfake detection methods and ethical considerations. As the first systematic literature review in this field, this article aims to address existing gaps and emphasizes the need to understand both the negative and positive aspects of deepfake technology.
