People Perception on Family Structure and Divorce
Abstract-The study was aimed to examine the influence of various family configurations, particularly nuclear and joint families, on divorce and people’s perspectives on these types of arrangements in Kerala. According to Indian society, family structures are significant, each with distinct features and societal impacts. A joint family can be considered a group of nuclear families living together under a shelter in which each individual carries their own role and shared responsibilities. But it can also lead to conflicts that may occur due to the interference in personal matters. The nuclear family is the basic unit of the arrangement, comprising a husband, wife, and their unmarried children. In this scenario, nuclear families possess a greater level of privacy and autonomy among the family but lack an extensive support system than joint family structures. Divorce rates within the mentioned structures, nesting elements including communication, interference, role expectations, etc., are to be considered. Each family structure has its own merits and demerits, so a family structure that lacks effective communication and conflict resolution will have a high likelihood of divorce. So that the investigation study will lead to identifying the people perceptions that their family structure lacks these mentioned features and has a high rate of divorce.
