Heterotopic pregnancy: A case report
Abstract: Rationale: Heterotopic pregnancy is defined when both intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy occur simultaneously. It is difficult to diagnose due to complex clinical presentation and laboratory findings. We present a first-trimester heterotopic pregnancy that was diagnosed by USG and managed successfully by laparotomy. Case Presentation: A 25-year-old lady p0+1 (termination of pregnancy due to multiple congenital anomalies), conceived with an oral ovulation induction drug, came to BRB hospital with the complaints of pregnancy for 8 weeks with severe lower abdominal pain for 4 hours with slight per vaginal bleeding. USG revealed a live intrauterine pregnancy with huge collection in POD and hepatorenal angle. After proper counseling, an emergency laparotomy was done, and ectopic pregnancy was managed successfully. Conclusion: Heterotopic pregnancy is a rare but life-threatening condition. High suspicion index and USG can help to reach the diagnosis.
