Development of Targeted Benzimidazole-Based Anticancer Compounds: Assessing Cytotoxic Effects and Cell Cycle Disruption in Cancer Cell Lines

AbstractThis work delves into creating new benzimidazole compounds designed to fight cancer, stepping up to meet an urgent need for better-targeted treatments. It looks at how these molecules really mess with cancer cells—by checking how many cells stick around, how they kick off programmed cell death (apoptosis), and how the whole cell cycle gets thrown off balance. Interestingly enough, some of these compounds show a pretty strong ability to slow cell growth and kick off apoptosis, with noticeable shifts in cell cycle behavior that pop up most clearly in breast and lung cancer cases. Importantly, these results hint that the compounds might be zeroing in on malignant cells while mostly leaving normal tissue alone, which is an encouraging sign for future treatment avenues. In most cases, this insight not only broadens our grasp on how benzimidazole derivatives work in cancer therapy but also sets the stage for more down-to-earth research that could eventually shape clinical practices and improve patient outcomes.
