Addressing Developmental Challenges through Innovative Solutions in the Arts and Social Science: An African Perspective
Abstract This paper explores the role of education as a transformative instrument for addressing the multifaceted developmental challenges confronting nations, with particular emphasis on the Canadian model. Drawing insights from the educational systems of Canada and other global counterparts such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Nigeria, the study highlights how education catalyzes economic, social, political, and human development. The Canadian experience demonstrates the strategic deployment of education in promoting civic engagement, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and global awareness. The paper underscores the achievements of Canadian education in fostering inclusive citizenship, enhancing media literacy, and integrating Indigenous perspectives. It contrasts these accomplishments with challenges faced by developing countries like Nigeria, where the absence of value-based, inclusive, and functionally relevant education hinders sustainable development. The study advocates for an innovative, value-oriented educational framework tailored to African contexts—particularly Nigeria—capable of cultivating responsible, ethical, and socially committed citizens. The conclusion posits that meaningful development across all dimensions is contingent upon a well-structured, holistic educational system
