GREEN ECONOMY IN UZBEKISTAN: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

The transition to a green economy is a pivotal element of Uzbekistan's sustainable development strategy, driven by the need to address environmental challenges, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote economic diversification. This paper examines the prospects and challenges of Uzbekistan's green economy initiatives, focusing on government policies, renewable energy investments, and socio-economic implications. Key government strategies, such as the Green Economy Strategy (2019-2030), aim to foster sustainable practices in energy, agriculture, and industry. While the transition offers significant opportunities for job creation, economic resilience, and social equity, it also faces challenges such as infrastructure limitations, investment gaps, and regulatory barriers. This article concludes that Uzbekistan’s success in achieving a green economy will depend on its ability to attract international funding, modernize infrastructure, and implement effective regulatory frameworks. By addressing these challenges and leveraging its renewable energy potential, Uzbekistan can establish itself as a regional leader in sustainable development.
