Analyzing the Influence of Corporate Social Responsibility on Consumer Perceptions: A Case Study of TATA Group
From the barter system to the modern era of plastic money, humanity has made remarkable progress. While profitability has always been a key driving force, intense competition and business rivalries have often impacted product quality, transparency, the environment, and society. Over time, businesses recognized that profit alone was insufficient—they also needed to consider the well-being of the people and environment that sustain them. This understanding gave rise to the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The Tata Group has long upheld the belief that true success is meaningful only when it benefits the nation and is achieved with integrity. J.R.D. Tata, who led the group from 1938 to 1991, recognized that social progress in a diverse country like India could not rely solely on government efforts. He advocated for industries to go beyond offering fair wages and good working conditions by actively contributing to the welfare of the communities they serve. The Tata Group pioneered labor welfare initiatives even before such practices became legally mandated worldwide. This paper examines CSR through the lens of the Tata Group under the leadership of Mr. Ratan Tata, who has demonstrated a strong commitment to societal well-being, environmental sustainability, and national development.
