The Role of Sustainable Practices on Hospitals Management In Somalia, 2024
Abstract The healthcare sector in Somalia faces significant challenges due to resource limitations, political instability, and infrastructural constraints. This study examines the role of sustainable practices in hospital management, emphasizing their impact on operational efficiency, cost reduction, environmental sustainability, and healthcare service delivery. The research explores key areas such as energy efficiency, waste management, sustainable procurement, and green building practices, identifying both barriers and opportunities for implementation within Somali hospitals. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing surveys and interviews with hospital administrators, healthcare professionals, and policymakers in Mogadishu and the surrounding regions. Findings indicate that while sustainable practices can improve hospital efficiency and reduce environmental impact, their adoption is hindered by financial constraints, lack of awareness, and inadequate policy frameworks. The study highlights the need for government intervention, stakeholder engagement, and international collaboration to integrate sustainability into healthcare management. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable healthcare systems in post-conflict settings, providing recommendations for policymakers and hospital administrators on strategies to enhance sustainability in Somalia’s hospital sector. The findings offer valuable insights for improving hospital resilience, service quality, and environmental responsibility in resource-constrained healthcare systems. Keywords: Sustainability, Hospital Management, Healthcare Efficiency, Somalia, Environmental Practices, Resource Optimization.
