Precision Timing In Quantum Computing Unlocking Performance With Swabian Instruments
Advances in quantum computing require high-precision timing instrumentation, whether for photon coincidence detection, quantum entanglement verification, or quantum network synchronization. This presentation explores the role of precision timing electronics in quantum experiments, particularly focusing on Swabian Instruments' Time Taggers. Swabian Instruments is a company based in Stuttgart, Germany, that specializes in timing electronics for applications requiring very precise time resolution measurements, including time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC), remote synchronization protocols, and phase & frequency characterization. TCSPC experiments are crucial for breakthroughs in quantum technology, life sciences, and optical communication. Swabian Instruments is already revolutionizing the field by working with top institutions worldwide including NASA, MIT, Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, and Max Planck Institute, amongst others. In this talk, we will discuss some of the key applications in which the Time Taggers are used, including quantum heralded measurements, Linear Optics Quantum Information experiments, and distributed quantum network applications. We will cover some of the key challenges, such as photon timing jitter, coincidence counting, and synchronization across multiple nodes, and demonstrate how Swabian Instruments' state-of-the-art time tagging solutions can overcome these obstacles. Dr. Mirco Kolarczik is the Head of Research & Applications at Swabian Instruments, based in the headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Kolarczik has a PhD in Physics from the Technical University of Berlin, and has been working at Swabian Instruments for almost 6 years. Dr. Mireia Perera-Gonzalez is the Technical Sales Team Lead at Swabian Instruments USA, in the Boston office. Dr. Perera-Gonzalez has a PhD in Bioengineering from Northeastern University, and has been in the company since 2023.
