Problems and Challenges in the Tourism Industry in India

Abstract: India's tourism industry plays a crucial role in economic growth, cultural exchange, and job creation. However, several challenges hinder its full potential. Infrastructure deficits, poor connectivity, and inadequate tourism facilities limit accessibility to many destinations. Environmental concerns, including over-tourism, pollution, and the degradation of heritage sites, threaten sustainability. Safety and security issues, bureaucratic red tape, and inconsistent promotional strategies further restrict growth. Additionally, seasonal dependence, health and hygiene concerns, and global competition pose significant obstacles. The COVID- 19 pandemic further exacerbated these issues, leading to severe losses in the sector. Addressing these challenges through improved infrastructure, sustainable practices, and strategic policy reforms is essential for the long-term success of Indian tourism.
