The Deforeinising norms of China's political translation: An Analysis through Foreignized Collocations and Translator Reflections

This dataset contains supplementary materials associated with the manuscript The Deforeignising Norms of China’s Political Translation: An Analysis through Foreignized Collocations and Translator Reflections. It includes two appendices: Appendix 1 provides discourse-level metadata from a self-compiled diachronic corpus of Chinese political documents and their official English translations. The corpus spans over two decades and captures shifts in translation practices across different time periods. Appendix 2 is divided into two parts. Part 2-1 contains metadata of publications authored by Chinese official translators discussing their translation practices. Part 2-2 includes annotated translation examples extracted from these publications. The annotations reflect the translators’ rationale, value judgments, and strategic preferences in their rendering of political texts. These materials support the manuscript’s investigation into the evolving norms of political translation in China, particularly the interplay between foreignization, deforeignization, and institutional discourse.
