The Vectorial Nature of Area and a Critical Review of Gauss's Law in Surface Integrals
This paper examines the vectorial nature of area from an integrated mathematical and physical perspective. It demonstrates that area is a vector quantity by analyzing its emergence in different dimensions, starting from one-dimensional space to planar surfaces, and then applying the concept to spherical surfaces. The study highlights the inconsistencies that arise when assuming area is a scalar quantity, focusing on geometric and physical interpretations. Additionally, this paper critically reviews Gauss’s assumption that differential area vectors on a closed surface sum to zero, showing that this assumption lacks rigorous mathematical and physical justification.
