Developing Spanish Virtual Study Assistants Using Generative Artificial Intelligence
In this project, we aimed to develop virtual study assistants (VSAs) in Spanish that use Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help with participant recruitment and screening. Research staff, investigators, and regulatory personnel guided the design of this VSA. We then built a prototype VSA and used Large Language Models (LLMs) to deliver study-related question-and-answer in Spanish. Preliminary tests compared the AI-delivered answers with human expert responses to gauge accuracy, cultural relevance, and responsiveness using automated and human evaluations.
