Beyond Profit: How Corporate Social Responsibility is Reshaping Indian Society
Abstract: This article aims to offer a comprehensive overview of the value propositions found in research supporting the business rationale for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Over the past three to four decades, there has been a consistent uptick in awareness and reporting from organizations of all sizes regarding their societal and environmental impact. Businesses have come to recognize that governmental efforts alone are insufficient to elevate disadvantaged communities. The mandatory nature of CSR has dispelled the notion that profit is the sole objective; instead, it emphasizes that building trust through community engagement is essential for an organization's long-term viability. This piece endeavours to examine the current state of CSR in India and explore the extent to which companies can implement CSR practices. We aim to shed light on CSR initiatives undertaken by Indian corporations, which could potentially benefit both economic and social interests. The article relies exclusively on secondary data sources and focuses on identifying and assessing the obstacles and difficulties faced by Indian organizations in implementing CSR strategies.
