THE ROLE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN IMPLEMENTING EUROPEAN STANDARDS FOR WATER DISTRIBUTION IN UZBEKISTAN'S HYDROMELIORATION SECTOR

The modernization of Uzbekistan’s hydromelioration sector requires not only infrastructural reform but also the adoption of internationally recognized practices and standards, particularly those developed within the European Union. Central to this process is the English language, which functions as a key medium for accessing technical documentation, participating in international collaborations, and mastering specialized software for water modeling and distribution (Sokolov, 2020; World Bank, 2019). This study investigates the pivotal role English plays in the localization and implementation of European water standards in Uzbekistan’s water governance context. Through document analysis and expert interviews, the study finds that English proficiency among professionals facilitates more effective knowledge transfer, technical training, and global engagement. The findings suggest that strengthening English skills is essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability and international compatibility of Uzbekistan's hydromelioration systems (European Commission, 2021; Uzbekistan Embassy in the UK, 2023)
