A Review on Twisted Helical Coiled Heat Exchanger

A variety of tactics are referred to as "heat transfer augmentation techniques" in order to accelerate heat transfer without materially affecting the system's overall performance. These techniques are used in heat exchangers. These techniques can be passive or active. Active solutions need external power to enter the process, whereas passive ways don't require any additional energy to improve the thermohydraulic performance of the system. Passive techniques are commonly used in experimental and numerical applications to preserve energy when investigating friction losses and heat transfer enhancement. There are many passive methods for increasing the rate of heat transfer, including nozzle turbulators, coiled or tangled wires, and twisted tapes, among other components found in the fluid flow path. The fluid-to-fluid heat exchange is considered in current research. The majority of heat transfer coefficient studies are conducted under constant wall temperatures or constant heat flow. For the parallel flow and counter flow configurations of the helical coil and straight tube heat exchangers, the effectiveness, overall heat transfer coefficient, effect of cold-water flow rate on heat exchanger effectiveness when hot water mass flow rate is kept constant, and effect of hot water flow rate on effectiveness when the cold-water flow rate is kept constant, were studied and compared. The interior heat transfer coefficient was determined using the Wilson plot method. Then, using the interior heat transfer coefficient as a foundation, Nusselt no and correlation were derived. All measurements were made when the heat exchanger was operating at a steady state.
