Glow Tray: A DIY Solar Hygiene Station for Schools
Glow Tray is a student-developed hygiene system that leverages solar power to enhance cleanliness in classrooms and reduce the risk of infectious diseases like HFMD and the flu. Using common household items such as a shoebox, foil tray, plastic wrap, and a thermometer, the project creates a low-cost solar chamber that heats up above 40°C. Effectiveness was tested by comparing bacteria samples taken before and after placing items in the Glow Tray using agar plates. This paper provides a detailed explanation of the project's design, scientific principles, and its significant educational impact through the lens of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). The Glow Tray project promotes child-led innovation and hygiene awareness and engages students in a hands-on, real-world problem-solving experience, making it a valuable addition to primary school settings.
